The Aims of the ASDC of GB are: To maintain the Anatolian Shepherd Dog, Çoban Kőpeği according to the very best working examples in the whole of Turkey today, in their naturally occurring coat colours and textures. It is not our intention to single out any one extreme, be it by coat or colour, nor do we wish to change the breed, or invent a new one. We firmly believe that the working, breeding and show stock should be the same.
The Anatolian Shepherd Dog originates in Turkey where it is known as 'Coban Kopegi', which translated means Shepherds Dog. It is a flock protector of ancient origin and should not be confused with the herding dog. Similar dogs are depicted in Assyrian artwork from more than 4000 years ago. It is one of the true working dogs found in the world today. The conditions which it has to work under can be extreme and through necessity they have become very adaptable.
Their temperament should be calm, gentle, sensitive and observant. They have a natural guarding instinct and require correct socialisation. They are a large, powerful and agile dog, capable of great speed when required. Colours vary from white to fawn, including tri-colours, and more rarely brindles. Various coat lengths are exhibited, and short and rough coats can be found in the same litter.
If you would like to know more about this noble breed, please do not hesitate to contact us. We are a supportive, enthusiastic club with dedicated members and a planned breeding program from hip-scored parents.
