Inbreeding: It has come to the attention of The Anatolian Shepherd Dog Club that a breeder not known to be affiliated to or a member of any club related to the promotion of Anatolians, has bred a number of litters, which have been identified as brother/sister mating (inbreeding).
This inbreeding has been the cause of several phone calls to Committee Members because of health related problems that have occurred. Some of the problems have been skeletal whilst some have been major organ failures. These conditions are naturally detrimental to the well-being of Anatolians in general. This is a great shame as most Anatolians are well bred by caring breeders that love the breed.
In keeping with good animal husbandry, the Club cannot condone such breeding practices and clearly has to distance itself from such behaviour and in doing so hopes that the individual(s) involved will now end this.
One can only assume that it appears to have been done solely as a financial cost cutting measure to save using an unrelated stud dog that would have cost the price of a puppy. However, this seems a small price to pay against the poor health of several Anatolians that we now have knowledge of.
We therefore must ask you the buying public, to be most careful when buying a puppy, to ensure that it is well bred and not inbred, and to seek advice from the Club if you have any concerns whatsoever.
If you are still in doubt as to the breeding history of your proposed purchase, you should ask to see the puppies’ pedigree documents. You can also check the breeding through the Kennel Club. It should be noted however that the Kennel Club do accept registration on inbred litters such as brother/sister; mother/son & father/daughter.
As a result of this inbreeding, the faults we are currently aware of include:
Heart failure; Kidney Failure; OCD, which was previously unknown in this country for this breed and various skin conditions.

All other matters: Our hobby is an exciting one and those who are involved with the breed of the Anatolian Shepherd Dog tend to have an "esprit de corps". It is hoped that this "esprit de corps" continues throughout the coming years. However, should any member of the ASDC of GB or any visitor by their actions bring the hobby into disrepute or cause anxiety or discomfort to other visitors to the site, then the Club would not hesitate to ban him or her for life from participating in any of the activities of the Club or Site.
